Hero's journey essay

I am comparing 2 stories to the hero’s journey.

The names of the stories I am comparing are La Luna and Uenuku and the mist maiden.

Please watch and read these, it will be easier to understand what I am comparing to.

The hero’s journey is a journey the main character/hero goes on to make the story become a story. You can’t have a story if there is no hero’s journey. In every story there has to be 4 things; a status quo - the normal life for the hero, a departure - where the hero leaves his/her normal life, a crisis point - where the hero is feeling like he/she is defeated and can't go on, and the return - where the main character/hero makes it back to their normal life.

In Uenuku and the mist maiden. Uenuku’s normal life/status quo is that he was hunting. Then his call of adventure is that he sees the mist maiden and it’s love at first sight. He was feeling excited, nervous, and mind blown when he saw the mist maiden.

In la luna, the problems the little boy faced were that his dad and grandad were telling him he had to use the tool they wanted him to use. But he didn’t want to use those tools.

The crisis point is that a huge star bigger than all the rest of the stars, came shooting down and landed on the moon.

How the little boy overcame the problem (in la luna); the little boy used a hammer to break it into a lot of little stars. His dad and grandad are surprised and happy for their little boy, and don’t pester him on what tool to use. His dad and grandad also stop arguing for once!

How this journey relates to me is when I ran 7km, in the run from broad park to spencer park challenge. My normal life is before the class gets told about the run, that is my status quo. Then my call to adventure is when we get told about the run, I then sign up. Then, my departure is that my mum takes some of my friends and I to Broad park to start our run. Our trials were that we got tired a few times but got back our energy by drinking some water. My crisis point was that I got exhausted when I was more than halfway there, maybe 5km in, and wanted to stop. But I kept on going with the help of my friends. My result was that I could keep running and finish. When we finished, we had a BBQ and hung out for the rest of the day. Then our return to the normal world was that my friends and I got driven by my mum back to school. Our new life/status quo is that we have completed the run and can now believe we can do (almost) anything.

If you ever find your call to adventure. Never saw no to it. You never know what might happen...
