Christmas In China

Christmas Traditions in China. The small number of Christians in China call Christmas Sheng Dan Jieh, which means Holy Birth Festival. They decorate their homes with evergreens, posters, and bright coloured paper chains. Not many people sing carols on the streets, though it's popular in Christian's houses, where the karaoke machine is, the karaoke machine is very popular in China. Gifts are not given much in China apart from in the expats. Many Christmas foods are difficult to find in China: Brussels sprouts, Christmas puddings, even turkeys. But internet shopping can be a way to get Christmas food home quicker. Santa's in China are the same as the ones in NZ but they have a one piece red suit with no white. They have the same hat but the boots are red as well.

They seem to have a liking for red!

  1. Hi Charlotte, I found it interesting to learn about what Christmas looks like in China. I wonder how many people in China actually celebrate Christmas. I can imagine how much fun they have singing karaoke- do you think they sing Christmas songs?
